Epidemiology of Diabetes Mellitus and Risk Factors at Elementary Schools in Al-Sadr City

Abstract

Objective(s): To determine the incidence and prevalence of diabetes mellitus among elementary schools, to find out the relationship between risk factors and the incidence and prevalence of diabetes mellitus, and to find out the relationship between risk factors and random blood sugar.

Results: The study showed that the prevalence rate of type 1 diabetes was 0.27 per 100 students, and the incidence rate was 0.23 per 100 students. Also indicate that there is a significant correlation between the incidence and prevalence rate of diabetes and risk factors, as p-values of.026,.042,.045, and.001; furthermore, there is a significant difference in the effect of the risk factors on random blood sugar, as indicated by p-values of.049,.012, and.001.
