Objectives: The current study aims to explore the relationship between nurses' practices in medication preparation in pediatric hemodialysis centers.
Methodology: a descriptive Cross-sectional descriptive study among 54 nurses working in the hemodialysis departments of Tikrit Teaching Hospital and Balad General Hospital in Salah al-Din Governorate, Iraq. The study was conducted from September 1, 2022, to March 5, 2023. The study sample was selected using a non-probability (purposive) sampling method. The study sample was collected by having the participants fill out a questionnaire administered by the researcher.
Results: The results of the current study showed that the majority of the study sample were females, and the participants' ages ranged from 25 to less than 30 years. Most of the study sample had a nursing diploma. They had experience in the nursing profession ranging from 1 to less than 3 years. The study findings indicated that nurses' medication preparation practices for children undergoing hemodialysis were moderate.
Conclusions: The current study concluded that nurses' medication preparation practices in hemodialysis units had a low overall mean score. This percentage is insufficient, which may lead to inadequate care for children and complications.
Recommendations: The study recommended conducting an educational program to improve nurses' practices in medication preparation for children's care in hemodialysis units and consequently improve the quality of nursing care provided to sick children
